2 Man Extreme Class Rules

Type of Cars: Any American-made sedan or station wagon 1980 and newer. No trucks, vans, El Caminos, hearses, 4x4's, limos, Imperials or Imperial sub-frames. Pre-ran cars must call Trace for any repairs!

 

A. Body

  1. All glass, plastic, and interior must be removed before arriving to the event.

  2. All exterior door seams may be welded shut with 3” x 1/8” door strapping (do not overlap).

  3. Deck lids must be in original position above rain channels or they may be removed from car. No wedging. Body creasing is ok.

  4. You must have a 12” x 12” inspection hole in deck lids.

  5. Deck lids may be welded shut 5” on 5” off 1/8” max material.

  6. Hood can be bolted shut in 6 locations 5/8” max.

  7. Hoods must be open for inspection. (12" x 12" hole over carburetor).

  8. Factory body bolts may be changed to 5/8” bolts. There must be a 1” gap between body and frame. You can use steel spacers, hockey pucks, or a stack of washers none of which may be bigger than 3” in diameter. Body washers inside of car can be no bigger than 3” in diameter.

  9. No seam welding will be permitted on body. Repairing sheet metal is limited to where the battery box, gas tank, and driver’s area of the floor boards of the car.

  10. Front body space may be 4” tall maximum.

  11. You may use expanded metal or a factory air condenser on core support in front of radiator this may be attached with 4 – 3/8” bolts or 4 – 1” welds

  12. You must have a windshield wire or strap from the center of windshield to the center of dash bar or wire only to the cowl if you do not have the cowl cut out.

 

B. Cage

  1. All cage components may be no larger than 6” x 6”.

  2. You may have a bar in the dash area and a bar behind the seat with bars connecting the dash and rear bar on each side. Side bars may extend to rear wheel tubs to accommodate batteries, coolers, etc being moved to the rear seat area to allow room upfront for both drivers. These bars must remain inside of the car and not inside of doors.

  3. Roll over bar is permitted.

  4. You may have 4 vertical down legs to sheet metal only (3” x 3” max).

  5. You may have one 4” x 3/8” rear window strap sheet metal to sheet metal only. 6” onto the roof from window opening and 6” onto the trunk from front trunk seam.

  6. You may have one 2” x 3” tubing from roll bar to dash bar for safety. It cannot connect to the firewall in any fashion.

  7. Gas tank protectors are permitted no wider than 32” permitted.

  8. Gussets permitted in corners of cage but must only be done at corners. You may use a 10” X 10” X ¼” plate, 1 per side, to attach bars to the sheet metal. No kickers permitted.

  9. All cage components including dash bar, center bar, and corner gussets must be 5” from firewall. Absolutely nothing can be placed between the cage and the firewall/distributor protector. Rear seat bar may be no farther back than where the kick panel meets the seat. All bars must be 5” off the transmission tunnel.

  10. Original gas tank must be removed and replaced with a boat-type tank or fuel cell. Moved inside of car behind driver's seat but no further back than rear axle. Batteries must be moved to passenger side floor board and securely fastened. These must be covered with a rubber or non-flammable material.

 

C. Frames

  1. Cars frames must be stock.

  2. No painting of the frames.

  3. Trailer hitches and braces must be removed. No frame welding other than what is stated in the rules.

  4. No frame shaping or hammering permitted. You may crease, notch, or dimple rear 12” of the frame to help car roll.

  5. No tilting OR COLD BENDING of frames will be permitted.

  6. No shortening of frames past the factory front seam of the factory core support mount. Front mount must remain visible with bumper mounted.

  7. Factory engine cradle may be plated top side only with ¼” plate max.

  8. You may seam weld a-arm forward single 3/8” pass.

  9. You may have a bumper bracket plate on 1 side of your frame (4” x 10” x 3/8” max). This will be measured from the front bumper 10” back onto the frame.

  10. You may have a 22” x 6” x ¼” contoured hump plate centered on the humps outside of the frame only.

 

D. Bumpers

  1. Bumpers may be welded on. No additional metal allowed. You may only weld the factory brackets or remove the factory brackets and weld bumper straight to frame.

  2. On the back side of bumper where shock mounts you may use a 6” X 6” X ¼” piece of flat metal to create a flat mounting surface. No additional metal may be used.

  3. Bumper swaps are allowed. Any year bumper permitted. Bumpers may be loaded. All work on factory bumper must be done inside of the bumper. Factory replica bumpers are allowed.

  4. Car must set level. Bumpers cannot be higher than 22” to bottom of bumper or lower than 15” to bottom of bumper.

 

E. Drivetrain

  1. Any car motor of choice is permitted.

  2. No chains on engine permitted.

  3. You may replace the factory trans crossmember with a straight 2” x 2” x ¼” tubing. No arched crossmembers.

  4. Angles for cross member can be no longer than 5" and must be within 12" from factory location.

  5. You may use any transmission mount.

  6. Full engine and transmission protectors are allowed. Steel bell/tail allowed.

  7. Engine may be mounted solid with aftermarket mounts. These may not touch the frame in any way.

  8. You may use aftermarket break and gas pedal, shifter, reinforced tie rods, steering column, and slider drive shaft.

 

F. Suspension

  1. Tie Rods may be reinforced. Any rear end permitted. Cars must be stock unless otherwise noted in rules.

  2. Watts link conversions on 98 and newer cars are permitted. You may use no larger than 2” X 3” X ¼” tubing or 2” round pipe for rear trailing arms.

  3. You may also use no larger than 2” X 3” X ¼” tubing or 2” round pipe for rear trailing arms on all others.

  4. You can weld front A-arms down using a 2” X 2” X ¼” piece of steel front and back side of A-arm.

  5. No spacers or other metal permitted in, on top of, or around coil spring inside of frame on front coil springs.

  6. Rear coil springs may be wired or chained. Solid suspensions are allowed. Cars do not have to bounce. Front coil springs must remain stock car coil springs. You may use 1” all thread for rear shocks.

  7. You can use screw-in spacers to get ride height.

  8. Leaf spring cars must remain factory springs for that make and model. No more than 4 spring clamps permitted. (2 per side) You cannot change coil spring to leaf spring set ups.

 

G. Tires

  1. Valve stem protectors are allowed.

  2. You may use bead locks.

  3. You may use weld in wheel centers.

  4. No studded tires.

  5. No wheel weights.

  6. No foam filled tires allowed for safety reasons.

 

H. 03 and Newer Ford Rules

  1. You may use pre-approved bolt in engine mounting systems manufactured by companies such as SMW, etc. These may not be altered in any way to mount any suspension components.

  2. All suspension mounting points must remain factory. The factory upper a-arms may be manipulated for proper spindle angle/ride height.

  3. Steering (rack & pinion) may be reinforced or upgraded but must remain factory appearing. Tie rods may be reinforced.

  4. Engine and transmission mounting must follow guidelines set above for all other cars in this class.

  5. Same frame shortening rules apply as above.

 

2-Man Extreme Format

Two drivers will be in the car. One will be in the driver’s seat and one will be in the passenger seat. The driver will have the steering column and the passenger will have the gas and brake pedal. The shifter can be ran by either participant. No pedals on the driver side will be allowed. The passenger may have a bar mounted to the dash bar or a dummy steering wheel to hold on to (this bar will not reinforce the car).
